From mid August to mid September 2018, I was honoured to be an artist in residence at Atelier Austmarka, Norway. Being able to explore and investigate the relationship between environment and people in a place that allows one the peace and serenity to do so, was a privilege.
Austmarka is located at the southern end of Finnskogen, a cohesive forest area that stretches north along the Swedish border. Forest fins began to settle in the area in the 17th century, and there is still a preserved finnetorp. Several place names have a Finnish origin.
